Between free agency and the NFL Draft, there is no question about it that Detroit Lions‘ general manager Bob Quinn has filled some major roster holes so far this offseason.
That being said, did Quinn ignore the Lions’ biggest need going into the 2019 NFL Draft?

Heading into the draft, many believed the Lions’ biggest need was an offensive guard to replace T.J. Lang. Personally, I felt the biggest need was a tight end and Quinn certainly addressed that by selecting T.J. Hockenson out of Iowa with the No. 8 overall pick.
But as the rounds went by, the Lions continued to ignore the offensive guards who were available and by the time the draft concluded, Quinn ignored the position completely.
So, what does this mean?
Well, this could mean Quinn believes the Lions starter at RG is already on the roster (Kenny Wiggins) or it could mean he is planning on adding another free agent.

Or maybe Quinn believes UDFA Beau Benzschawel, who was added after the draft, can come in take the job. Many believed Benzschawel would be selected in the mid to late rounds, but apparently, there were a lot of teams who believed they could snag him without spending a pick on him.

Last year, Quinn failed to adequately address the tight end position and the Lions offense struggled at least partially because of that. This year, Quinn chased that mistake not only by signing Jesse James but by drafting Hockenson and also Isaac Nauta out of Georgia.
Hopefully, he is not chasing another mistake (not addressing the right guard position) during the next offseason.
