A frightening report yesterday indicated that Detroit Tigers closer Francisco Rodriguez was injured at the World Baseball Classic. According to Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, Detroit fans can relax about the health of ‘KRod.’

Ausmus spoke with the Detroit Free Press in an attempt to calm the nerves of Tigers fans.
“I talked to Frankie,” Ausmus said. “He said that it was a cramp from a wrap that was too tight on his leg. He said he’s fine. To quote Frankie he said: ‘I’m fine.’
“Actually he sent me an audio text. He did. We’re still waiting to hear from the trainers down in Mexico City but I’m optimistic that he’s fine because he told me he’s fine.”
Let’s not kid ourselves, it’s important to get the final word from the medical professionals. Rodriguez will be a very important part of the Tigers team in 2017.
Rodriguez is the MLB leader in saves among active players. The Tigers exercised Frankie’s option for the 2017 season, bringing him back for one more year. KRod is a 6-time All-Star with a career ERA of 2.73.
