The 2025 season did not end the way the Detroit Lions envisioned, and general manager Brad Holmes didn’t shy away from acknowledging that reality during his season-ending press conference.
Holmes began by directing his comments toward the fan base, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support shown throughout a frustrating year.
“I want to thank our fans, they show up, support, like they always do. We are very thankful for that. It’s just very frustrating that we weren’t able to put together a more consistent product for you guys, but we will get better,” Holmes said.
The Lions entered the season with legitimate expectations of contention, making the uneven performance all the more difficult to swallow internally.
“For our standards, this was a disappointment,” Holmes added. “When we set out for this journey, for this season, it wasn’t to match last year’s record or exceed last year’s record, it doesn’t really matter what the record is. Bottom line is, if we’re not in the dance, and we’re not competing for championship, it’s a failure.”
Despite the frustration, Holmes emphasized accountability and improvement rather than excuses. His comments echoed a recurring theme from the organization this offseason, that the bar has been raised in Detroit, and falling short of expectations is no longer acceptable.
While major changes are expected after the team moved on from offensive coordinator John Morton, Holmes made it clear the front office remains aligned with head coach Dan Campbell and committed to building a roster capable of sustained success.
The message to fans was simple but direct: the Lions know they fell short, they feel it just as strongly inside the building, and they believe the response will be better in 2026.
