On Monday night, the Detroit Lions announced they were firing Joe Marciano, who had been serving as the team's special teams coordinator.
A day later, the Lions made another big move as they are reportedly signing free agent wide receiver Bruce Ellington. In a corresponding move, running back Ameer Abdullah is being waived.
The #Lions are signing FA WR Bruce Ellington, formerly of the #Texans, source said. To create space, they are waiving RB Ameer Abdullah. He’s been mostly inactive this season. DET had some trade talks before the deadline but nothing came to fruition. The next step was to move on.

Ellington, who is 27, was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In 40 career games (7 starts), Ellington has 56 catches for 637 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Abdullah has been with the Lions since he was selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. During his 35 career games in Detroit (22 starts), he ran for 1,251 yards and six touchdowns. Unfortunately, for all parties involved, Abdullah was not able to hold on to the football consistency as he fumbled eight times with the Lions.

LOOK: The Detroit News uses headline to troll Lions’ Matt Patricia
The past week has been an interesting one for the Detroit Lions and it all ended on Sunday with a lackluster performance on the road against the Minnesota Vikings.
One of the big headlines this week, rather than talking about the football team, instead focused on an incident that happened during a Matt Patricia press conference.
During that presser, Patricia had an exchange with a reporter that left many media members feeling insulted.
In case you missed it, here was how the back-and-forth went.
Reporter: “Why do you think this move makes your franchise better?”
Patricia: “Ah, well, you know. Do me a favor just kinda sit up, just like, have a little respect for the process. Every day you come and ask me questions and you’re just kinda like you know, ‘gimme this.’ “
Reporter: “I’m sitting …”
Patricia: “I’m asking just to be a little respectful in this whole process.”
Reporter: “Okay, that’s fine.”
Patricia: “So ask me a question professionally and I’ll answer it for you.”
Patricia then went on to answer the question.
