BREAKING: Detroit Lions guard T.J. Lang in concussion protocol, status for Sunday uncertain

According to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport the Detroit Lions may lose offensive lineman T.J. Lang for this Sunday’s game against Cleveland. Here is the news directly from Rappaport:

Lang, the Lions’ prize off-season signing, already missed one full game and part of others this season with injuries. It is unclear if Lang was injured in Monday night’s win over the Packers, or if the injury occurred during practice to cause him to enter the concussion protocol.

Players in the protocol are monitored daily and are not allowed to return to football activities until they no longer show symptoms and have returned to their baseline test taken in the preseason. Then the team doctor and an independent neurological doctor must both clear the player for return to play.

Lang would be a big loss for the Lions, who already have one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL. Detroit is one of just four teams averaging fewer than 80 yards on the ground per game. In addition, this weekend the Lions go up against a Cleveland Browns team that has the fourth-best rushing defense in the NFL.

We at Detroit Sports Nation will monitor the situation closely and keep you informed of any changes.

With their 30-17 win over the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football, the Detroit Lions are now 4-4 on the season and within striking distance of the first place Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North.

One of the biggest takeaways from the game was that the Lions did not have to punt the ball a single time. That, of course, means the offense was having quite a bit of fun as they marched up and down the field on the Packers defense.
