Flashback: Detroit Lions to interview Mike Vrabel for head coach position

Now that Jim Caldwell has officially been fired, the big question becomes, who will be the next head coach of the Detroit Lions?

That is a question Lions general manager Bob Quinn has already begun trying to answer as he has been researching potential candidates for some time now.

According to a report from Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the Lions have set up an interview with former Ohio State All-American and current Houston Texans defensive coordinator, Mike Vrabel. A source had told Breer that Quinn will interview Vrabel on Wednesday morning.

Vrabel, who is 42-years-old, won three Super Bowls as a member of the New England Patriots before retiring and getting into coaching. After spending 2011-2013 as a coach at Ohio State, Vrabel was hired by the Texans to coach their linebackers in 2014. Prior to the 2017 regular season, he was promoted to defensive coordinator.

In 2017, the Texans were No. 20 in the league in yards allowed per game and No. 32 in points allowed per contest.

Hopefully, the Lions are smart enough to not allow Vrabel to leave Allen Park without signing a contract, but we are talking about Bob Quinn, so…
