With the 20th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Bob Quinn and the Detroit Lions selected Interior Offensive Lineman Frank Ragnow from Arkansas.
“Anybody hit their mock draft this year?”
That was the first thing Quinn said in his post-round press conference last night. For the vast majority of media members, analysts, and myself, the answer was no. Many thought the Lions would go with a pass rusher or maybe even running back. The ones who did think Quinn would take an offensive lineman had Will Hernandez, Isiah Wynn, or Billy Price on their board before Ragnow.

Ragnow is not a sexy pick but gives Matt Patricia a solid player as he tries to solidify a weak interior of his O-line. Although he played center for the back half of his career in Arkansas, he played 13 games at guard his sophomore year, and that versatility will be helpful as Detroit tries to lock in who will play where this offseason.
Bob Quinn was so secretive about wanting the 21-year-old that even Ragnow did not expect to get picked by Detroit. This made for a special moment for him and his family when he got the call.

Ragnow should be able to come into Detroit and immediately be in the starting five. He is a fundamentally sound player with excellent pass blocking ability and is quick enough to get outside and block for screens and sweeps. He played over 2500 snaps at Arkansas and allowed no sacks according to MLive reporter Kyle Meinke, so he will give Stafford protection as well as help a struggling run game.
So far, the reaction has been mixed. There were some who didn't like Quinn not addressing the pass rush with the first pick, or trading down to get more picks. However, there has been a surprising number of positive reactions from fans and media alike.
What do you think?
