Roberts, who was selected by the Lions in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, played in 23 games (5 starts) over the past two seasons, catching 13 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns.

With the addition of Logan Thomas, who has reportedly impressed in OTAs and the Lions minicamp, Roberts became expendable.
Roberts had been working as the No. 4 tight end in OTAs/minicamp, but he also was seeing fewer H-back reps than No. 5 TE Jerome Cunningham. (And that’s without rookie Isaac Nauta even factoring into the mix yet.)
