It was just a matter of time but following a 3-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night, the Detroit Red Wings have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.
The Red Wings are eliminated from the playoffs. They can only get to 82 points and either Columbus or Montreal is guaranteed to get to 83.

This marks the third consecutive season that the Red Wings (and their fans) will be watching the NHL Playoffs from home.
Well, there is always next year, right?
