THEY DID IT!!!
The last place Detroit Tigers went into Houston on Wednesday night and defeated Justin Verlander and the first place Astros 2-1 to win it all!
Ok, obviously this win does not mean anything at all in the big picture but it sure as heck was cool to watch the Tigers take down Verlander and the Astros in a game where Detroit was reportedly the biggest underdog in baseball over the past 15 years or so.
Verlander was perfect through the first four innings but in the top of the fifth, Ronny Rodriguez took Verlander deep to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
With every Tigers’ fan on the edge of their seats, the Motor City Kitties held that lead until the bottom of the seventh inning when Astros catcher Robinson Chirinos hit a home run to tie the game 1-1.
But the stars aligned for the Tigers on this night as John Hicks, who is now batting .202 on the season, hit a home run off Verlander in the top of the ninth to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Tigers closer of the future (NOW) Joe Jimenez came in to seal the deal in the bottom of the ninth and all of Detroit celebrated with a 2-1 win over the Astros!
It has been an awfully long season, but this one victory over the great Justin Verlander is one we will never forget.
