If you have not heard by now, the Detroit Tigers have traded Justin Wilson and Alex Avila to the Chicago Cubs for minor league infielders Jeimer Candelario and Isaac Paredes, along with a player to be named later or cash.

With Wilson and Avila heading to Chi Town, the Tigers had to make a couple of roster moves to fill the 25-man roster. On Monday, the Tigers announced they have recalled RHP Joe Jimenez and C John Hicks from the Toledo Mud Hens.

Jimenez, of course, is expected to be the Tigers closer of the future. Earlier in the year, he got his first shot against MLB hitters and he struggled. In fact, Jimenez posted a 12.46 ERA in his five appearances, while allowing two home runs in 4.1 innings of work. While in the Toledo this season, he has been absolutely dominant as he has a 1.44 ERA in 26 games. What is even more impressive is that he has not given up a single earned run since June 25th. That is 16 consecutive outing without allowing a run to cross the plate.

It should be interesting to see how Tigers manager Brad Ausmus handles Jimenez for the remainder of the season. Time will tell if he throws is right into the fire and allows him to take over for Justin Wilson as the closer or if he eases him in by letting him work less stressful situations. Regardless of what happens, Jimenez, barring some type of injury, will be one of the favorites to be the Tigers closer in 2018.
