It certainly has been an exciting 24 hours for the Detroit Tigers and their fans. Not only did they trade Justin Upton (Angels) and Justin Verlander (Astros) but it’s now September 1st which means…

SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS!

On Friday morning, the Tigers announced they have recalled the contracts of pitchers Blaine Hardy and Jairo Labourt from Triple A Toledo and have purchased the contracts of catcher Bryan Holaday and infielder Efren Navarro, also from Toledo.

With Verlander and Upton gone, Navarro and Holaday will replace them on the 40-man roster.

Hardy has pitched in 23 games for the Tigers this season, posting a 6.05 ERA while striking out 14 batters in 19.1 innings. Overall, in 152 games in Detroit over four seasons, he has a 3.41 ERA and a K/9 of 7.4. 2017 has clearly been his worst season in the pros and the hope is he can get that turned around.

Holaday has yet to play in a game for the Tigers this season as he has spent the 2017 campaign in Toledo. In 93 games with the Mud Hens, he hit .269 with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs.

Labourt, who is a lefty, was ranked as the Tigers No. 17 prospect prior to the trades that took place on Thursday. In 2017, he has moved from High-A to, Double-A, to Triple-A. In 45 relief appearances in the minors this year, Labourt has posted an ERA of 2.17 with a K/9 rate of 10.7.

Navaro has not played in a Major League Baseball game since 2015 when he was a member of the Angels. In 131 games with the Mud Hens this season, he is batting .276 with 10 home runs and 61 RBIs.
