BREAKING: Detroit Tigers’ reliever designated for assignment following awful outing

Coming into the 2019 season, there were high hopes that Drew VerHagen would be a big part of the Detroit Tigers‘ bullpen.

Unfortunately, VerHagen was unable to get the job done and following a horrendous outing (6 runs in the 8th inning) on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals, he was reportedly designated for assignment.

Since he is completely out of options, VerHagen cannot just be sent back to the minors. Instead, he has been designated for assignment, which means he is no longer on the Tigers’ 40-man roster and is now on waivers. If claimed off waivers, VerHagen would report to the team that claimed him. If he clears waivers, he can either become a free agent, accept an assignment to the minor leagues, or be given his outright release.

There is a solid chance we have seen VerHagen in a Tigers’ uniform for the last time.
