Upon signing the agreement, Manziel was placed on waivers and claimed by the Memphis Express, who had first priority because of their 1-5 record.
Johnny Manziel now will go through the AAF waiver system since the San Antonio Commanders released his college allocation rights. Lowest win-loss percentage up first for Johnny Football.

With a 1-5 record, Memphis holds the AAF’s first waiver claim for Johnny Manziel. Memphis is on its third quarterback this season, having already started Christian Hackenberg, then going to Zach Mettenberger.

According to an AAF spokesman, Manziel will be eligible to play immediately.
From CBS Sports:
“We are pleased to welcome Johnny Manziel to Alliance of American Football, which we’ve always described as a league of opportunity for talented players to launch or revitalize their pro football careers,” said Head of Football Bill Polian in a statement. “We completed extensive background work to determine whether it would be appropriate for Johnny to play this season, and after consulting with many people familiar with his situation, we concluded that it would be good for him to resume his pro football career here at The Alliance.”
Earlier in the month, Manziel was released by the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League after breaking the agreement which allowed him to be eligible to play.
