BREAKING: Michigan Football reveals 4 non-conference opponents for 2021-23 seasons

On Friday, the University of Michigan announced four non-conference football opponents for the 2021-2023 seasons.

From Michigan:

The Western Michigan Broncos will return to the Big House for a season-opening matchup with the Wolverines on Sept. 4, 2021. Michigan has faced and hosted the cross-state institution on seven occasions, winning all seven matchups. The most recent contest was a 49-3 victory for the Wolverines this past fall.

Michigan will close out the non-conference portion of its 2021 schedule against Northern Illinois on Sept. 18. The Michigan Stadium battle with the Huskies will be the second-ever meeting between the two programs; U-M was victorious in the only previous meeting, a 33-17 win in 2005.

The Colorado State Rams will make their initial visit to Ann Arbor for a Sept. 3, 2022, matchup with the Wolverines at Michigan Stadium. The first-ever game between the two schools came during the bowl season, a 24-14 victory for Michigan in the 1994 Holiday Bowl.

In 2023, the Bowling Green State Falcons will travel north to Ann Arbor for a matchup with the Wolverines on Sept. 16. This will be the third meeting between the two teams, with Michigan having defeated Bowling Green in 2000 and 2010 at the Big House.

Following are the dates of the four home games during the 2021, 2022 and 2023 football seasons:

Sept. 4, 2021 – Western Michigan
Sept. 18, 2021 – Northern Illinois
Sept. 3, 2022 – Colorado State
Sept. 16, 2023 – Bowling Green

GM Bob Quinn: Team is tougher since I took over

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn recently spoke to media members and stated his belief that the team is tougher to play against since he took the reigns in January of 2016.

During his first two years as GM, the Lions finished 9-7 both times with average offensive and defensive numbers. Though the defense remained average during head coach Matt Patricia’s first year, the offense took a dip in efficiency, ranking 25th overall in scoring.

But Quinn is choosing to look more at the intangibles rather than the hard numbers.

“I think we’re a more physical team,” Quinn said. “I think we have a much better and sound, fundamentally, defense, especially run defense. I think we play a physical brand of football, which before, I didn’t think that was the case my first year or two. I think this year, we drastically improved that. …I think the same thing can be said for the offensive line and the running game. I know that part’s better.”
