Muliple reports have indicated that Yzerman informed the Tampa Bay Lightning that he’ll be stepping down as general manager, a position he’s held in Tampa Bay since 2010. This is the last year of his contract with the Lightning, and he’ll reportedly be staying with the organization through this year as an advisor. Assistant GM Julien BriseBois is expected to take over.

Furthermore, Detroit Free Press writer Helene St. James tweeted news that will be music to Detroit fans’ ears:

The Lightning have yet to officially announce the news, but they’ve scheduled a press conference at 4 p.m. for a “major announcement”.

Yzerman has been highly successful as general manager of the Lightning, as they’ve appeared in four Eastern Conference Finals as well as the Stanley Cup Finals in 2015, losing to Chicago.
