Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith is set to make his return to the lineup tonight when the Red Wings host the Buffalo Sabres at 7:30 p.m. at Joe Louis Arena.
Smith has been absent from the lineup since suffering a sprained MCL against the Montreal Canadiens on November 26, and he’s been itching to get back in the swing of things.
“I’m really excited to get back in. It seems like it’s been a long time,” Smith said after practice.
“I just want to help out the boys as best I can and try to get this train moving back in the right direction. We’re always looking for playoff berths, so that’s what we’ve got to shoot for and hopefully I can help the boys and play my game and kind of gear us in the direction.”
Smith will replace Ryan Sproul in the lineup tonight, while Nick Jensen will stay in for now. In 20 games played this season, Smith has two goals, two assists, 15 PIM and a -3 rating.
