The Cleveland Browns are shaking things up under center. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel is taking over as the starter, with veteran Joe Flacco sliding into the backup role. The move comes following the Browns’ 34-10 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Gabriel, who was drafted out of Oklahoma, now gets his first real shot to lead the offense. The move signals that Cleveland is ready to lean into youth after an up-and-down start to the season.
As for Flacco, the 39-year-old will remain on the roster as a veteran safety net, while Shedeur Sanders holds steady as the Browns’ third quarterback.
