Detroit Lions head coach spoke with NBC sideline reporter Michele Tofoya during halftime of Detroit’s Wild Card playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks, and said that the officials told him they missed a facemask call on Seattle’s touchdown.
Seattle advanced down the field halfway through the 2nd quarter, and converted a fourth down play on the goal line for a touchdown. Seattle WR Paul Richardson made an insane catch with his left hand and held on as he was falling. However, replays show that Richardson was grabbing the facemask of Lions safety Tavon Wilson, but no call was made.
Had the facemask penalty been called, the play would have resulted in offsetting penalties rather than a Seahawks touchdown. Wilson was instead called for pass interference, and the touchdown stood.
