The history between Calvin Johnson and the Detroit Lions is well-documented. Calvin retired early, the Lions made him pay back a substantial amount of money, Calvin is pissed, the two sides are on bad terms, Calvin said it will remain that way until the Lions pay him back, the Lions insist they want Calvin to be part of the Lions family, the end.
Anyways, on Tuesday, Lions team president Rod Wood spoke to the media and not surprisingly, a media member asked about Calvin Johnson, again.
Wood told reporters that the team continues to reach out to Calvin.
“I would say nothing’s really changed,” team president Rod Wood said in a conference call Tuesday. “We’re very much supportive of Calvin’s candidacy for the Hall of Fame. Continue to try to reach out to him. But it’s going to require both of us to get together on that. It’s not just us. And I won’t really comment on that. But certainly, as I’ve said at the very beginning, that’s my goal.”
Well, according to Calvin, Wood was lying when he told reporters that the team was reaching out to him.
But in a text message to the Free Press, Johnson denied Wood’s claim of trying to contact him.
“Not that I’m looking for him to,” Johnson wrote, “but that’d be totally false if he asserted he reached out to me recently.”
