Calvin Johnson spikes ball on Detroit Lions, Rod Wood during Hall of Fame press conference

Calvin Johnson was selected by the Detroit Lions with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft and that is where he stayed for his entire nine-year career.

During those nine seasons with the Lions, he was six-time Pro Bowler and a three-time NFL All-Pro while being one of the most dominant players in NFL history.

Because of his performance on the field, Johnson has been selected to be part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2021.

On Friday, during a Pro Football Hall of Fame press conference, Johnson said that he would thank a lot of people who helped him throughout his career but the Detroit Lions may not be on his list.

“I’m definitely going to bring up a lot of people that I’m thankful for,” he said. “There are so many people during my career that had an impact and those specific people I’m going to try (thank) … at least I have them on the ticker. But I’m not going to mention everybody. As far as the Lions, hey, I got nothing to say.”

Johnson was also asked about Lions’ team president, Rod Wood and it is pretty clear that he is not interested in interacting with him if he is at the HOF Induction in August.

“I’m sure I’m going to run into him,” he said of Wood. “But you know me: I keep it short. I keep it moving. I go about my business.

“Put it like this: I’m not going to be seeing my family a whole lot during this whole weekend, so I’m going to be looking forward to seeing them whenever I get a chance to. So If I pass Rod Wood, I’m going to keep moving.”

As far as he and the Lions making up and being on good terms, Johnson said he is done wasting his time waiting.

“It’s kind of been a standstill there,” he said. “I’m five years out now. I’m not wasting any time waiting on them.”

  1. So tired of Calvin’s sulking and taking jabs at others. Take some personal responsibility. He left early and has done nothing but bitch about it. It was his choice, and no, you don’t get paid if you don’t complete the contract. Quit asking for money you did not earn, the organization does not owe you. Really sick of his narcissistic selfishness.
