In 2019, despite having a ‘defensive genius' as head coach, the Detroit Lions not only had one of the worst defenses in the NFL but they were dangerously close to having the worst defense in franchise history.
So, in the offseason, the Lions went out and hired Corey Undlin away from the Philadelphia Eagles to become their next defensive coordinator.
The hope was the Undlin would come in and see things from a different perspective and make the changes needed to put a formidable defense out on the field on weekly basis.
Well, we are two weeks into the season and the defense has looked even worse than it was a season ago.
So, what has Undlin changed?
According to Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, not much has changed at all.
“It looks really similar to me,” Kingsbury told the media on Wednesday.
Asked Kliff Kingsbury how Detroit's defense has changed since bringing in Cory Undlin. Kingsbury: "It looks really similar to me."
