The Detroit Tigers know they have a gem in pitching prospect Casey Mize, and that was reflected in last week's MLB prospect rankings.

Mize moved up to the No. 3 overall prospect in the latest ranking. He moved up following the graduation of Blue Jays third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez and Reds center fielder Nick Senzel from prospect status.
He's listed behind the San Diego Padres' Fernando Tatis Jr. and Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco.
As far as pitchers go, he's the top ranked prospect.
In 12 starts between Single-A Lakeland and Double-A Erie, Mize sports a 0.95 ERA and 0.687 WHIP across those 12 starts. Of the 276 batters he's faced, 56 have reached base and 73 have struck out.
