Casey Mize picks jersey number in advance of MLB debut with Detroit Tigers

Detroit Tigers fans are finally going to get a chance to watch No. 1 pitching prospect Casey Mize on the big stage.

Mize, who is 23, will make his Major League debut on Wednesday night against the Chicago White Sox, and the excitement level is high.

But before he could take the mound, Mize had to pick a jersey number and that is exactly what he did by choosing No. 12.

Last season with the Erie SeaWolves, Mize wore No. 32, but that number is currently being worn by Michael Fulmer. The most recent Tigers player to where No. 12 was Brandon Dixon, who wore it in 2019.

Mize said he chose No. 12 because he had a shortlist to choose from but I want to believe he picked it because former Tigers' broadcaster Rod Allen wore it!

I see you, Casey!
