Tigers develop contingency plan at catcher

The Detroit Tigers are still working on solutions at catcher for the early part of 2015. Given the recent injuries issues with Alex Avila, Detroit is looking at all kinds of options for the man behind the plate:

Apparently, Andrew Romine and Hernan Perez are getting some reps during bullpen sessions in order to prepare for the possibility of catching during a game. Brad Ausmus told the Detroit Free Press feels that it’s important to be prepared:

“If there’s an emergency, you’re just hoping there’s someone back there that can catch the ball,” manager Brad Ausmus said. “You have your back against the wall, you need to get through the game and if need be, you can call somebody up the next game if you needed another catcher.”

Apparently, both Romine and Perez have at least some catching experience in the past. Obviously, they are not long term options at the plate for Detroit.
