Always at the front lines of Detroit Sports.

It’s been a long time since the Detroit Red Wings were able to say they’ve won two straight games.

Over a month, in fact.

But they’re able to say it once again tonight and for the third total time this season. They took down their Original 6 rival Montreal Canadiens at Belle Centre by a 2-0 score, improving their record to 9-22-3; Montreal dropped to 15-12-6.

Goals from Tyler Bertuzzi and Mike Green powered Detroit’s offense, while goaltender Jonathan Bernier turned in another strong performance with 42 saves.

Bertuzzi got the festivities going early in the first period by beating Canadiens goaltender Carey Price with a quick snapshot after forward Dylan Larkin stole the puck from Shea Weber behind the net.

Midway through the third period, Green’s blast from the top of the slot found its way past Price to give the Red Wings the two-goal advantage; Andreas Athanasiou and Valtteri Filppula earned the assists. For Green, it was his second goal of the season.

Montreal would make things interesting with former Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar cutting the lead in half with just under a minute left in regulation, but it’s as far as they would get.

The Red Wings will return home tomorrow night for a matchup against the Los Angeles Kings at 7:00 PM EST.
