Former Detroit Lions quarterback Charlie Batch found himself trending for all the wrong reasons during the Houston Texans’ rough playoff loss to the New England Patriots.
After Texans QB C.J. Stroud threw four interceptions in the first half of a 28–16 defeat, frustration boiled over on social media. One fan took a pretty wild swing, posting:
“C.J. Stroud has the best defense in the world and has regressed to Charlie Batch.”
Batch, who was minding his own business, quickly noticed the stray shot and responded with humor:
“How’d I catch a stray in this? Lol.”

The comment instantly made the rounds, with Lions fans jumping in to defend Batch, who spent four seasons in Detroit after being selected in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft. A product of Eastern Michigan, Batch later went on to have a long, respected career as Ben Roethlisberger’s backup in Pittsburgh, winning two Super Bowls and earning a reputation as one of the league’s best teammates.
In other words, not exactly the insult that poster thought it was. Sometimes social media just fires from the hip—and even former Lions quarterbacks aren’t safe from catching a random one.
