Chris Ilitch releases statement regarding Ron Gardenhire’s retirement

Detroit Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire has made the decision to call it a career this afternoon, effective immediately.

And while the reaction among fans has been pouring in, Detroit Tigers CEO and Chairman Chris Ilitch, the son of the late great Mike Ilitch, released a statement in which he described Gardenhire as “one of the best baseball men around”.

We certainly wish Gardenhire the best as he focuses on his health moving forward.
