Chris Osgood named partial owner of Saginaw Spirit hockey team

The Saginaw Spirit announced this afternoon that a familiar name well known to all fans of the Detroit Red Wings will be added on as a member of its ownership team.

Former four-time Stanley Cup winner with Detroit and 401-career-win goaltender Chris Osgood was introduced as the newest member to the ownership team for the Spirit.

Osgood seemed very excited for this new opportunity.

“They didn’t really have to convince me to join … it was more me convincing them to let me in,” Osgood said. “It’s been a dream of mine to be an owner in the CHL.

Osgood will see a familiar face along side him as a member of the¬†ownership team. Senior vice president of the Wings’ organization¬†Jimmy Devellano will also see himself handling ownership duties with the Spirit. Devellano was announced as a partial owner of the team not even a week ago.

The Saginaw Spirit are constructed in the Ontario Hockey League in the Western Conference’s West division. Some notable alumni who’ve played for the Spirit include T.J. Brodie, Vincent Trocheck, Brandon Saad and Chris Throburn.

This is a huge opportunity for the former Red Wing to use his knowledge for the game of hockey, put it to good use and really help build a strong core of players for the Saginaw Spirit hockey team going forward.
