Will Kenny Golladay play for the Detroit Lions in 2021?
At this point, that may be the most important question Lions GM Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell have to address during the offseason.
The Lions will have to decide whether or not they want to sign Golladay to a contract extension (likely $18-20 million per season), use the franchise take on him (around $16 million or so), or let him become an unrestricted free agent.
Earlier this week, Chris Spielman joined the Stoney and Jansen with Heather show on 97.1 the Ticket and when he was asked about the Lions plans for Golladay, Spielman may have given us a hint as to what the Lions will plan to do with their star receiver.

“I think Kenny is a, he’s a competitive guy and the thing that I’ve always admired most about Kenny when doing the games on TV is his ability to win the 50-50 ball,” Spielman said. “I just think his size and what he can bring to the table is something that a lot of people liked about Kenny Golladay, including me.”
Golladay also fits into another philosophy Spielman espoused Tuesday, that having good receivers are crucial to winning in today’s NFL.
“I’ll have to ask Brad or Dan this theory, but I have a theory that you kind of, back when I played … you used to build from the inside out,” Spielman said. “Well, today’s league, I think you build from the outside in.”
Nation, do you take this as a hint that the Lions are planning to keep Golladay around for the 2021 season?
Would you pony up the money will cost to make that happen?
Personally, I would use the franchise tag on Golladay for the 2021 season and then do my best to trade him to the highest bidder, whether that be prior to the upcoming draft or sometime before the trade deadline next season.
