The Michigan Wolverines are fresh off their Big Ten Championship win last night in Indianapolis; however, they remain behind No. 1 Alabama in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s final rankings.
For Michigan fans wondering why the Wolverines weren’t ranked first overall, let CFB Playoff selection committee chair Gary Barta explain.
“Let’s begin with the game that was played last night. Coming into the game, Georgia was undefeated and ranked No. 1 by the committee all along, but not only did Alabama beat Georgia, but the way they beat them,” Barta said. “They controlled the game pretty much from start to finish. There’s that and when you add that to their body of works, the wins over Ole Miss, Arkansas.
“At the end of the day, Michigan obviously a big win two weeks in a row now, but the complete victory over Georgia, the committee came out of there with a strong consensus that Alabama was No. 1 and Michigan was No. 2.”
The No. 2 ranked Wolverines will play No. 3 Georgia at the Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on New Year’s Eve.
