Things sure did get chippy between the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins on Saturday at TD Garden!
Late in the second period with the score knotted at 1-1, fans almost got to see goaltenders Jimmy Howard and Tuukka Rask go at it. It started when well known pest and super agitator Brad Marchand decided to take a swipe at Howard as he was skating towards the bench on a delayed penalty call against the Bruins. Naturally, that didn’t sit well with Howard, who swung back.
Rask immediately made his way toward the scrum ala-Patrick Roy in 1997 and tried to get a hold of Howard. Both goalies were ready to go, but by then the officials had gotten in the way and put the kibosh on the entire thing.

How cool would it have been to see Howard join Mike Vernon and Chris Osgood as Red Wings goalies who have thrown the fists?
The Red Wings ultimately got the better of the Bruins, winning by a 4-2 final score.

Red Wings expect different result in Boston this time
It was a brutal scene at TD Garden, to be frank.
On October 13, the Bruins absolutely dismantled the Red Wings by an 8-2 final score. Boston scored scored seven times in the last two periods to send the Red Wings to one of two humiliating losses on that particular road trip; the other against a fellow Original 6 rival in the Montreal Canadiens.
However, the team insists they’re far different from the team that started 0-5-2 on the year.
“We had a good first period but we got scored on late and then it really went the wrong way,” head coach Jeff Blashill said.. “We’re a totally different team now, in my opinion. It doesn’t mean it can’t happen again but we’ve got a lot of vets back in the lineup and we’ve got way more confidence.”
