Just when you think the buildup to Detroit Lions–Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football couldn’t get any spicier… Dak Prescott stepped up to the microphone and added a little extra fuel to Detroit’s fire.
During a pregame media availability, NFL Network’s Jane Slater asked Prescott what he remembered from his last trip to Ford Field. His response?
“That we lit them up. Lot of passing yards. About to do it again.”
When Slater asked if she could quote him, Dak doubled down with a confident “sure.”
Just asked Dak Prescott what he remembers from the last one here “that we lit them up. Lot of passing yards. About to do it again”

I asked can I quote you on that “sure” with a confident smile #Cowboys pic.twitter.com/XS0nw3OdNc
Well, congratulations, Dak, the Detroit Lions officially have fresh bulletin board material less than an hour before kickoff.
A Quick History Lesson, Dak
Look, Prescott did put up numbers the last time he played at Ford Field, 444 yards and three touchdowns back in 2019. Detroit remembers.
But you know what else the Lions remember?
The last time these two teams met.
And it wasn’t pretty for Prescott.
In their 2024 showdown, the Cowboys quarterback was nowhere near the guy Detroit fans saw five years earlier:
- 17-of-33 passing
- 178 yards
- 0 touchdowns
- 2 interceptions
- A 47–9 Lions beatdown
That game was one of the most dominant defensive performances Detroit has delivered in the Dan Campbell era, and Prescott was the primary victim.
So hearing him talk about “lighting them up again” definitely hits a little differently in Detroit.

Why This Matters for Tonight
For a Lions team fighting to stay in the NFC playoff picture, motivation is never in short supply. But hearing an opposing quarterback casually predict fireworks at your stadium?
That’s the kind of quote that defensive coordinators print out and tape to every locker.
You can bet Aidan Hutchinson, Brian Branch, Terrion Arnold, and Kerby Joseph have already seen Dak’s comments. And you can bet they’ll remember them when the ball is kicked off in primetime.
Detroit loves playing with an edge, and Dak just handed them a brand-new one.
The Bottom Line
Dak Prescott may have meant it as confidence, but it sounded a lot like underestimating a Detroit defense that embarrassed him the last time around.
If the Lions needed any extra motivation?
They have it now.
See you at kickoff, Dak.
