Dallas Cowboys and OC Kellen Moore part ways

Over the past couple of years, we have heard quite a bit about Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who formerly coached with the Detroit Lions, as being one of the best young offensive minds in the game. Well, after coming up short of their goal of winning a Super Bowl, the Cowboys and Moore have decided to part ways. According to a report from Tom Pelissero, the decision was a mutual one as Dallas felt a change was needed moving forward.

Why it Matters

During the 2022 season, the Cowboys had the No. 15 ranked offense, according to Football Outsiders DVOA statistics. Now, the Cowboys will have to find a new offensive coordinator for the 2023 season, while Moore is likely to get the same job elsewhere.

  • Dallas offense in 2021 – No. 6 DVOA (No. 12 DVOA in Playoffs)
  • Dallas offense in 2020 – No. 15 DVOA (No. 5 DVOA in Playoffs)

Bottom Line for Kellen Moore

Though Moore's time with the Cowboys is over, it seems likely that he will land another OC job in the very near future. In fact, according to a report from Ian Rapoport, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to have significant interest in Moore as their next OC.
