During Monday’s game between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, Hamlin had just made a tackle on Bengals WR Tee Higgins. After getting up momentarily, Hamlin collapsed to the ground, and that is where the scariness began.

Medical staff rushed to the field and reportedly administered CPR and used an AED as they awaited the ambulance. Once loaded into the ambulance, Hamlin was transported to a local hospital, and he currently remains there in critical condition.

According to reports, Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field, and he was placed on a ventilator when he got to the hospital.

On Tuesday night, prior to a candle vigil for Hamlin, his uncle spoke to reporters and said his nephew technically died twice on Monday night, once on the field and once when he got to the hospital.

“He’s still here,” Glen offered. “He’s healing right now. Like I said, they sedated him just to try to give him a better chance to continue to heal better. Just taking it day by day, and it seems like he’s trending upwards in a positive way, and thank God for that.”

“I just want to express my gratitude to the medical staff that was on hand,” Glen said. “If not for them, my nephew probably wouldn’t be here, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. We thank them.”

According to reports, doctors have turned Damar Hamlin onto his stomach to relieve pressure from his lungs. He remains in critical condition.
