The Detroit Lions didn’t just beat the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football; they delivered one of their most complete performances of the season. After the game, head coach Dan Campbell stepped to the podium and spoke passionately about his team’s toughness, mentality, and refusal to panic. Below is everything Dan Campbell said during his post-game presser.

Dan Campbell’s Full Comments After the Lions’ 44–30 Win Over Dallas
Opening Statement
“I’m proud of the guys. They rallied and they showed up. The work was there all week — it always is — but the intensity, the urgency… our guys don’t ever get frazzled. They don’t get panicked. They just go to work.
We talked about takeaways, and we got takeaways. We got three of them. Two of them turned into 14 points, and the last one we were able to kneel it out after Reed’s pick.
A number of guys played really well for us. Muhammad with the three sacks — that was big time. Hutch draws a lot of attention, he got some one-on-ones and he won his one-on-ones. That was huge. Jack Campbell was all over the field and had a punch-out.
TK in the return game — Tom Kennedy was huge for us. So was Sailors. Special teams played a huge role.
And then Goff — I told him we were going to put this on him. This game we were going to put on him, and it was going to start with him. And he really lit the fire for us.
St. Brown — we didn’t know if we were going to be able to get him. Once again, St. Brown does what St. Brown does. If he can play, he’s going to play, and he didn’t want any plays off either, by the way. He’s going in to compete. He’ll block. He made some explosive plays for us.
Jamo stepped up. Gibbs showed up. Demo. The guys we talked about — we challenged a number of our guys and they really showed up for us.
That’s a damn good win. That team was hot coming in here. That’s a potent offense. Was it perfect? No. We still have some stuff that wasn’t good — penalties, some young guys we’ve got to clean up, false starts — but we overcame a lot. And that’s what this team does. I’m proud of them.”
On Complementary Football
“That game is one of the few we’ve had where we really played complementary football — we really, really did.
To be able to score right before halftime, then come out and get the takeaway — great job by Barnes — and then turn it into points, that was huge.
The whole sequence — the momentum, carrying it, helping each other out — everything was big and the guys stepped up.
We played complementary football and that above all is what really makes a difference. That’s what good teams do.
It doesn’t matter how good your offense or defense is — if you’re not able to help each other out when you need it with one of the phases, it’s tough. It makes it tough. We were able to do that today.”
On Amon-Ra St. Brown’s Impact
“It’s huge. St. Brown is what we are. He’s what we are. Where he goes, we go. His toughness, his willpower, his desire to compete, to help the guys around him, to do whatever it takes to win, is second to none.
He’s rare. His mentality — his mindset — he refuses to fail. Nothing is going to dictate where he goes, what he does, how it’s going to be. He will dictate to himself what he’s going to do.
Yesterday it came down to this: provided nothing happened when he woke up today, we’d see. We did a workout and quickly it was, ‘I’m going.’ We watched him and he was good.
Was it perfect? No. But he was going, and nobody was going to talk him out of not playing, I can tell you that.
It was great to have him out there, and yes, his teammates feed off that.”
On Being 15–0 After a Loss the Last Three Years
“We’ve got to string some wins together now. We battled back, we got this one, now we need to get another one.
These guys do a great job of taking it for what it is. They don’t get panicked. They don’t make something out of it that it’s not. Don’t make more of it than it needs to be.
There’s a reason why you’re not able to win a game. Here’s what it is. Is it correctable? Yes, it’s correctable. Well, this is what we’ve got to do moving forward.
Where do we find our matchups versus Dallas in all three phases, and let’s play our best game of the year. That’s what you’re trying to do.
By doing that and keeping it that way, our guys are able to always answer back.
Where you get in trouble is if you start panicking and you start doing more than you need to do. Just do your job and do it the best you can. Make it clean. Make it efficient. Worry about your fundamentals, your technique, and the guy next to you — he’ll do his — because we have the right guys here.”
On Carrying This Performance Forward
“We clean up the stuff that bit us today. That’s what we do.
We did some good things today — that’s good. Let’s see if we can tweak a couple of things and do a version of it, but also some of these penalties — let’s cut this out.
That’s how you do it. You start trying to reduce the stuff that could cost us. It didn’t today — we overcame it — but that’s what you do.”
On the Pass Rush
“I need to watch the tape just to see exactly how or what or why, but I know this: we had a lot of guys who won their one-on-ones, and we were pretty disruptive.
Muhammad, I already mentioned — I thought Mack did some good things in there. Hutch was close a number of times and flushed him.
We played pretty good coverage. It wasn’t perfect, but all in all, we did what we had to do.
We knew we needed to score on offense. It’s a potent offense. At the end of the day, we did enough in all three phases.”
On Rotating Guards and Playing Miles Frazier
“We wanted to get Frazier some reps. He’s a young guy. This is about when we threw Mahogany in there last year.
We just wanted to get a look at him and introduce him to the NFL, and try to be smart. You still want to move the football but also set him up where he can have some success.
We stayed away from some plays, but he earned the right to keep going. He did well enough that it was, ‘All right, let’s give him another series.’
Really, we didn’t have intentions of giving him as much as we did — we just wanted to introduce him — and he did some good things, it felt like, so we did.
And I thought Cologne did some dang good things too.”
On Jahmyr Gibbs
“He’s unique. He’s special. Everybody knows what he can do in the run game, and honestly we couldn’t quite get him going the way we wanted to in the run game.
But he still found paydirt on a couple of those.
The pass-game stuff — he just continues to grow. The more we give him and the more we work with him in practice, we just continue to try to open his horizons and give him a little bit more.
He grows. He gets better and better. Then he gets in the game and the routes get crisper and crisper and he just keeps going.
There’s just not a cap on this dude yet. He works his tail off. He’s smart, instinctive, a team guy. He’s something else.
The sky’s the limit for him. He’s just getting started now. He’s just getting started.”
On Brian Branch’s Injury
“I don’t know. I’ll know more tomorrow.”
On Whether This Performance Confirms the Lions Are a Playoff Team
“We know what we are. I’ve said it all along — we can’t worry about the outside noise. We’re the ones who write our own narrative.
We’re the ones who know what we are, what it takes, and why we’ve had difficulties but also why we’re able to succeed.
It’s about us and how we handle our business. And we handled our business today.
Now we get a little breather, a couple days to catch our breath, and then we get ready for the Rams.”
Final Update on Branch
“Yeah, I mean, he didn’t finish the game, but I’ll know more tomorrow.”
Bottom Line
Dan Campbell’s full comments reveal exactly why the Lions responded with their best performance in weeks. His relentless emphasis on composure, fundamentals, toughness, and accountability continues to define the culture in Detroit. After a statement win over Dallas, his message was clear: the Lions write their own story, and as Campbell said, “We handled our business today.”
The road gets tougher now with a pivotal matchup against the Los Angeles Rams — but the mentality Campbell described is the exact reason Detroit believes its best football is still ahead.
