Dan Campbell gives bad news regarding WR Jameson Williams

With the No. 12 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected WR Jameson Williams out of Alabama.

In order to obtain that No. 12 pick, the Lions had to trade up 20 spots in the first round.

Following the selection, Williams, who tore his ACL during the College Football Playoff Championship Game, told reporters that he planned to be ready to roll by the time training camp rolled around.

Jameson Williams likely to land on PUP list

According to Lions head coach Dan Campbell, it is unlikely that Jameson Williams will be ready for the start of training camp.

Campbell spoke to reporters on Thursday and broke the news that he does not feel like Williams will be ready on day one.

“He's gonna be around, he's gonna be around here with us, and in the short period in which he does go home, we know where he's gonna be and who those people are,” Campbell said  “With that being said, I don't see him being ready for training camp. I don't see that. I'm very hopeful, but I don't see it. We're going to do this thing the right way and when he's ready, he'll be ready, but no, I don't feel like you're gonna see him out there day one.”

Campbell added that though it is important for a young player to get practice reps, it is even more important that the player is healthy and ready to perform.

“We want to get him out there as fast as possible,” Campbell said. “It is crucial, but not until he gets his strength up. He needs a lot of strength development in that body, his lower extremities, his legs, his knees, everything. So, until he's able to stabilize himself and really get some strength that we feel good about, to where he can protect himself, he can protect that knee and he can compete, and compete at a high level, or we're not gonna put him out there.”

It is likely that Williams will land on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list and if remains there to start the regular season, he will be forced to miss the first four weeks.
