It’s Riley Patterson vs. Austin Seibert for the Detroit Lions kicking job and head coach Dan Campbell already has a leader in his head.
Following Monday’s practice, Campbell spoke to reporters and he gave an honest assessment of the Lions kicking battle saying that Seibert is a “tick better” than Patterson.
“If you’re asking me today, he’s a tick better than Riley Patterson,” Campbell said.

Dan Campbell seems to like Austin Seibert a little more at this point in camp
During the 2021 season, Seibert made 10 out of 12 attempts with the Lions, including going 1 out of 2 from 50 yards or more.
“Obviously, guys want to come back sooner than their body will let them,” Seibert said Wednesday. “And when they get back on the field, you start getting stronger, so you gotta re-harness everything as you get stronger and healthier.”
“I feel really good right now, probably the strongest I’ve been bouncing back from that,” he said of his offseason progress. “It’s just been a lot of hard work and whatnot, but the training staff here has been awesome and has really helped me.
“Just getting everything else kind of cleaned up and making sure I’m staying healthy is kind of the main thing right now.”
Patterson connected on 13 out of 14 attempts for the Lions in 2021 but he was only 1 for 4 from 50+ yards.
