The Detroit Lions, currently sitting at the top of the NFC with a 12-1 record, have been one of the most exciting teams in the league this season. While much of the credit for their success is given to head coach Dan Campbell and his innovative leadership, Campbell knows that the team's overall success is a result of a unified vision that starts at the top.
Strong Leadership from Owner Sheila Hamp
According to Campbell, a major key to the Lions' success is the strong leadership provided by team owner Sheila Hamp. While Campbell has been an integral part of the turnaround in Detroit, he knows the importance of having the right ownership to guide the team to sustained success.
“It’s a huge factor,” Campbell said as quoted by the Detroit News. “In my opinion, without having the right ownership, it’s hard to get to a point where you can have success and sustain it. I think it’s very hard. We have the right ownership. Sheila is outstanding, man. She gives us everything we need, she is very supportive and she speaks her mind with me, and I appreciate that.”
A Unified Team with Strong Core Values
Campbell also emphasized that the Lions have fostered a culture where the players feel ownership of the team and have full buy-in. He believes this sense of responsibility and accountability is crucial to the team’s success. “Our guys have ownership of this team, they have buy-in, they know it’s their team. We try to honor that, we do. Our team speaks volumes,” Campbell said. “Our core has got something. I listen, we listen, because that’s the way it should be. For the most part, the core, the herd, I think it’s you fall in line or it doesn’t work out. We’ve got a good group.”
Dan Campbell And A Recipe For Sustained Success
Having been in the league for years as both a player and coach, Campbell has seen his fair share of teams, both successful and struggling. He recognizes that the Lions have the right combination of ownership, leadership, and team culture to sustain their success, and he is confident in the team's potential moving forward.
“We’ve got the right recipe, we do,” Campbell said. “I would love to know who’s got it better than us. That’s a recipe to win with.”
The Lions' recipe for success isn't just about talent on the field—it’s about having the right people in place, from Sheila Hamp’s ownership to Campbell’s leadership, and a core group of players who are all bought in and ready to put in the work. As the Lions continue their march toward the playoffs, this cohesive strategy may very well be what sets them apart from the rest of the league.
