Dan Cleary wants to remain a Red Wing

We all knew it was going to come up at some point, but it looks like Dan Cleary wants to meet with Ken Holland in order to re-sign with the Detroit Red Wings for another season.

Cleary played 17 games with the Red Wings last season and had a dismal 1 goal and 1 assist. He did not see any playing time in the playoffs.  All signs would point to the Red Wings not re-signing the 36-year old veteran based on those stats, but the situation is a little more complicated. Cleary turned down a 3-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers for a 1-year contract with the Red Wings. The 1-year contract also came with a supposed handshake agreement between Holland and Cleary for the 2015-16 NHL season.

Based on past experiences with Ken Holland and the Illitch family, I have a sinking feeling that Dan Cleary will be back on the bench for the Red Wings next season.  They are very loyal to their word but sometimes I feel like it comes at a price, and in this case that price is number 11 unfortunately.

What do you think Nation? Will he be back?

I am a Canadian who has lived across the river from Detroit all my life and consider it to be my second home. I have always been a Detroit sports fan but the Red Wings have always taken precedence over the others.
