Dan Orlovsky has very clear advice for Detroit Lions when it comes to Matthew Stafford

Reports/rumors are swirling around that the Detroit Lions have decided they will move on from Matthew Stafford at the conclusion of the 2020 season.

Now, before we go any further, I want to be clear that I believe those reports/rumors are a load of horse manure considering the team does not even have a GM or head coach at this point.

That being said, though the Lions probably have not decided to move on from Stafford or to keep him at this point, one person who believes it is time to move on is Dan Orlovsky.

On Wednesday, Orlovsky joined the Pat McAfee Show and McAfee asked him about the report from Chad Brown which claims the Lions are moving on from Stafford.

Though Orlovsky did not confirm nor deny what Brown said, he did make it very clear that he believes the marriage between Stafford and the Lions has to end.

“100% the Lions need to move on from Stafford,” Orlovsky said. “It’s time. He was there for 12 years, it didn’t work…”

Nation, do you agree with Orlovsky that it is time to move on from Stafford?

  1. Matthew Stafford, with any real weapons (Golloday, Megatron, Marvin Jones) is as good a QB as has ever played the game and for him to leave the Lions BETTER be HIS decision. Ask Terry Bradshaw. Ask Aaron Rodgers. Ask anyone how good Stafford is. The Lions problems stems from play calling and their horrible Defense year after year who cannot get at the passer nor can get off the field on 3rd down. Listen, take away Stafford and Jaime Collins and this team would be competing for the 1st pick in 2021. How is it that an entire defense cannot bring half the real football skills to the field that Collins brings? That goes back to scouting and GM decisions. What the Lions need to succeed: Stafford, Swift, Golloday, Jones, a Defensive coach like the Niners DC, and a Defensive Line coach who knows how to prepare athletes. The Lions are a joke because of their scheme, not because of Stafford. The lines that the Lions Defense takes to the ball is shameful and sad. Collins looks like the only player out there who isn’t a joke. There are drills from my high school football practice that would improve these Defensive players skills. Taking the right angle, the right line to the ball, and doing it aggressively. Coaching and readying players for NFL football and scheme is where the Lions need help. Get rid of Stafford? That’s laughable. There’s 1, MAYBE 2 QB’s I’d rather have. Mahomes and MAYBE Rodgers. Nobody slings fastballs more accurately and from all different angles than Stafford except Mahomes and MAYBE Rodgers. Yeah, let’s get rid of Stafford like the Tigers got rid of Verlander, David Price, Max Schurzer etc…pitchers who all pitched in the World Series after leaving Detroit. Does anybody remember the Red Wings before Scotty Bowman? Or the Red Wings when they went out and got Hassek? This team has a once in a lifetime top quality quarterback. To even think about getting rid of him makes me nauseous. What the Lions need are some key pieces but mainly they need people who aren’t idiots calling the plays and running practice.

  2. Stafford has never been the problem. You have to have a good defense to help win games. We cannot expect him to have to engineer 40 points every time out. For years the Lions had no running game so it all fell on #9. This is a team game. Stafford is about all our team has. I would hate to see him go, would rather see us fix the defense, get additional O line help, etc. I would understand if he wanted to move to a contender but my hope would be that we can add pieces and new schemes that will get us wining SOON.
