Dane Brugler has Detroit Lions making big moves with 2 first round picks in 2022

The 2021 NFL Draft is in the books which means the 2022 NFL mock drafts are already flowing like honey.

Most of the 2022 mocks I have come across have the Detroit Lions with the No. 1 overall pick but Dane Brugler of The Athletic believes the Lions will have the No. 2 overall pick behind the Houston Texans.

According to Brugler, the Lions will use the No. 2 overall pick to select QB Sam Howell out of North Carolina. They will then use the No. 30 overall pick (from the Rams) to select WR Chris Olave out of Ohio State.

Here is what Brugler has to say about the picks. (In case you were wondering, Brugler has Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler going No. 1 overall to the Texans)

2. Detroit Lions — Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina

Until he proves otherwise, Jared Goff is likely the short-term option in Detroit while the organization searches for the long-term answer. It is tough to watch Howell and not see similarities to Baker Mayfield — both positive and negative. His maturation will be interesting to track without Javonte Williams, Michael Carter, Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome, all taken in last week’s draft.

30. Detroit Lions — Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State

From L.A. Rams

The second Ohio State receiver drafted in this mock, Olave was considered a borderline first-round pick before he decided to return to Columbus for his senior year. His body type is only average, but his speed and ball skills are appealing traits for the next level.

Nation, where do you think the Lions will be selecting in the 2022 NFL Draft?
