After suffering setback after setback, Daniel Alfredsson has stopped skating by himself at the Joe Louis Arena and does not know when he can resume. The Wings are prepared to take their time and wait for him to be a 100 percent confident in his decision but this is not good news for his situation.
Alfredsson and his family are already committed to staying in the Detroit area for this school year. He has really enjoyed his time with the Detroit Red Wings and was eager to get back to playing with him. The Wings want him back and he wants to come back but he has to listen to his body. Alfie has stated numerous times that he will only come back if he can contribute the way he wants to contribute.
“He was feeling pretty good but was getting frustrated because he wasn’t getting over the hump,” Holland told the Free Press today. “He would feel good, push it and have a setback. He was frustrated because he was not able to get to the point where he wants to be at to tell me he wants to practice with us.”
It is always upsetting to see a player of Alfredsson’s caliber have to hang up the skates before he feels like he is ready to. Let’s hope he gets some good news in the next month or two and that we will see him in a Wings jersey this year.
