The hectic summer of 2001 continued for the Detroit Red Wings by making their second major move in three days, following up the trade for Dominik Hasek by signing left-wing forward Luc Robitaille.
Robitaille came to Detroit after carving out a Hall of Fame worthy career, mostly with the Los Angeles Kings. He also had stints with the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers.
Coincidently, Robitaille had been part of the upstart Los Angeles Kings team that had beaten the Red Wings in the playoffs just a few months prior.
Robitaille reached several milestones with Detroit, the most significant of which was winning his first career Stanley Cup championship in June of 2002. He also scored his 600th career goal, as well as becoming the highest scoring left-winger in NHL history.
