STREAK SNAPPED: Red Wings officially eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention

All good things must come to an end, and I guess that holds true even for the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings amazing 25 season long playoff streak was officially snapped on Tuesday night, as they were eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention. Detroit’s loss combined with Boston’s 4-1 win and Toronto’s 3-1 win sealed the Wings fate.

It’s a strange feeling that many Red Wing fans don’t know how to react to. A generation has grown up of knowing nothing but playoff hockey in the Motor City. Sadly, that won’t be the case in 2017. The last time the Red Wings missed the playoffs was in the 1989-90 season.

It will surely be an offseason of change in Detroit.
