Prior to the 2014 season, when the Detroit Tigers announced they were hiring Brad Ausmus to succeed Jim Leyland as their manager, I shook my head in disgust. My disgust had nothing to do with whether or not I believed Ausmus could become a good manager but because of the fact, he was taking over a veteran team without having any managerial experience whatsoever.

Fast forward to the present as the Tigers announced on Friday that Ausmus would not be returning as manager in 2018. It’s a move the team should have made a long time ago. You know, prior to the 2016 season, prior to the 2017 season, during the 2017 season, I think you get the point.

During his time in Detroit, Ausmus rubbed many fans and members of the media the wrong way. His demeanor was that of a person who does not have time for you because they think they are above you. He would often talk down to the media and many of his comments about how he handled an in-game decision were insulting to any media member or fan with a brain.

For four seasons, Brad Ausmus has been underachieving as manager of the Detroit Tigers and for four seasons he has been feeding us lines of B.S. whenever he has had the chance.

On Friday, after finding out from Tigers GM Al Avila on Wednesday that he would not be returning for another season with the Tigers, Ausmus spoke to the media and, you guessed it, he was still giving us lines of garbage.

“Quite frankly, I told him I completely understood,” Ausmus said. “I told him if he’d have walked in and offered me a contract I probably wouldn’t have come back. Because the team and this organization is starting over and it needs a new voice.

“Sometimes you have to be able to evaluate yourself. I looked in the mirror and thought it was probably a good idea that they do (make a change). I am comfortable with it.”

Ok, Brad, you may or may not have told Al Avila that you completely understand, but if you really expect anyone to believe you would have walked away had he offered you a contract extension, you are crazier than we thought.

During his interview with the media prior to today’s game, Ausmus had a lot of nice things to say about the Tigers organization and about the city of Detroit. We do wish him the best with his family and in the future in MLB, but we sure will not miss comments like the one if fed us today.

  1. FU ausmus that you would not have come back if Avila asked you. You came back the last 2/3 years when you knew you were in over your head.
Too bad Ausmus couldn’t take another in over his head Al Avila and his band of Idiots Deluxe in the front office; Chadd, Littlefield, Owens, Bream, and Pleis who give us Tigers fans Poor drafting and poor player development.
