After what can be considered an up and down weekend against the New York Yankees. The Detroit Tigers travel to heartbreak city, Cleveland, to take on the Indians in a three-game series. While the Tigers are riding a high after a 12 run outburst against the Yankees on Sunday, they still lost the series and were outscored 25 to 17. Anibal Sanchez came to the rescue on Sunday winning his third straight start, but also finally allowed a run after his 21 1/3 innings scoreless streak was snapped.
As Detroit opens another series against division rival Cleveland it seems that J.D. Martinez is getting his groove back and that Victor Martinez might be near 100% healthy. It only took 3 games for V-Mart to hit his first home run since coming off the disabled list, and he looks to do more damage in the familiar grounds of Progressive Field.
The Tigers currently hold a 7-2 series lead against the Indians and look to make that a 10-2 series lead. Game 2 of the series seems to be the most intriguing game with a pitching matchup of Tigers ace David Price verse Indians ace Danny Salazar. Salazar has done a good job keeping the Tigers bats quiet in the two times he has faced them this year, but let’s hope this time is different. Detroit’s three through six hitters seem to be hitting on all cylinders as they look to start making moves to reclaim the AL Central lead.
Cleveland, on the other hand, has been struggling at home this season, posting a 14-21 record and coming off a series loss to the Tampa Bay Rays where they only managed to score three runs. After much anticipation and high expectations coming into the season, Cleveland has really struggled and currently sits 4 games below .500, and 2.5 games behind the Tigers.
