On Deck: Detroit Tigers @ Minnesota Twins

The Detroit Tigers are heading into the final series before the All-Star break sitting in third place in the AL Central behind the Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins. Many expected the Royals to remain a top team in the AL, but the Twins have been a pleasant surprise this season, sitting right in the thick of the playoff race midway through the season.

Detroit has had a disappointing start to the year to say the least, but a strong series against Minnesota heading into the break could pay huge dividends in terms of setting up the Tigers for a second half surge. With David Price on the mound to start the series on Thursday, Detroit will look to take control of this series early, and hopefully cut into the Twins lead on them in the division, if not overtake them entirely.

Minnesota just got Ervin Santana back from suspension, and he shined in his season debut on Sunday, tossing 8 innings and allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits in a no decision against the Royals. The Tigers will have the pleasure of facing Santana in game 2 of their series with the Twins, hoping that they can get to Santana early and give Justin Verlander the run support he needs to go deep into the game.

Much of that run support will rely heavily on the likes of J.D. Martinez, Victor Martinez and Yoenis Cespedes, but regardless of what happens in this series, remember to vote for Cespedes in the 2015 All-Star Game Final Vote.
