The Detroit Tigers (26-19) head out west to start their seven game road trip by opening up a three game series against the Oakland Athletics (16-30). The Tigers are once again stumbling into a series having lost the final two of a four game series against the Houston Astros. The bats did show up for three of the four games, but it was the starting pitching that failed the Tigers on Sunday. Coming into this important series, the Tigers sit in very unfamiliar territory, 3rd place, currently three games behind the Kansas City Royals. While Oakland is sitting in last place in their division, the Tigers can’t take this series lightly as they desperately need a series win, if not a series sweep.
Oakland comes into this series finding themselves in unfamiliar territory sitting in last place in the AL West. While Oakland, just like Detroit, has had their series of injuries, GM Billy Beane is optimistic things will turn around for them. The A’s are led by catcher Stephan Vogt, who comes into the series with a .306 average, 10 HR’s, and 33 RBI’s.
