After coming off a series win against the power hitting Toronto Blue Jays the Tigers head out west to start a seven game road trip, with the first three games against the Seattle Mariners. The first two games of the series are going to be late night games with start times of 10:10 pm leaving it up to the night owls to cheer the Tigers to victory. The Tigers currently sit one game above .500 at 41-40, but have a monstrous task ahead of them as they try to make up some ground before the All-Star break with out the games best hitter, Miguel Cabrera. As we know the Tigers will be with out Miggy for at least another two weeks, but some people are saying that it may be up to six weeks before he returns. Luckily the Tigers still have a very potent middle of the line up featuring AL player of the week, J.D. Martinez.
The Tigers open up the series tonight against an under performing Seattle Mariners team that currently has a 38-44 record which is good enough for fourth place in the AL West. While Seattle is struggling this season, they are still not a team to take lightly. They have one the games best players in Robinson Cano at second base, and All-Star power hitting Nelson Cruz in the DH position. The Tigers do however benefit this series by not having to face Seattle’s ace, Felix Hernandez.
Let’s hope for three quality starts this series and some great bullpen work as the Tigers look to make up ground in the AL Central and get another series win in Seattle.
